Frequently Asked Questions
Below, you'll find answers to the most common questions you may have.
If you can't find the answer to your question, please feel free to contact us.
What is A-Ride?
A-Ride is Greater Toledo’s trusted, locally owned and operated ride service providing safe, reliable, and friendly rides for individuals of all abilities. Whether you’re independent or need some extra assistance, our professional drivers are here to help you get you wherever you need a ride.
How is A-Ride different from a taxi or rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft)?
Unlike typical rideshare services, A-Ride drivers are fully CPR and first aid trained, background-checked, and held to strict compliance standards. Drivers are supported by a local company who cares for our community. We also offer levels of service options beyond curb-to-curb for passengers who need some assistance.
How do I schedule a ride?
You can book a ride by calling our dispatch center, booking through our A-Ride Mobile App, or through our online booking form. Rides can be booked in advance, and we recommend booking as early as possible to ensure availability.
Can I schedule recurring rides?
Yes! If you have regular appointments (like work on ongoing medical appointments), we can set up a recurring schedule for your convenience.
How much notice do I need to give?
For the best availability, please schedule your ride at least 24 hours in advance. We also provide same day and on-demand rides.
What types of service does A-Ride offer?
We offer several levels of assistance to match your needs:
• Curb-to-Curb: For independent riders.
• Door-to-Door: For riders who may use a walker or mobility aid.
• Hand-to-Hand: Ensures passengers are safely checked in at their appointment at medical facilities.
Are your vehicles wheelchair accessible?
Our drivers and fleet are comfortable accommodating mobility devices such as walkers and transport chairs. However, wheelchair-accessible vehicles are very limited.
If you need transportation for a wheelchair, please contact our sister company, TLC Transit, which specializes in fully accessible transportation services.
Will the driver wait during my appointment?
Drivers may wait upon request, and the passenger will be charged for wait time.
For longer appointments, we recommend calling for your return ride once your appointment is complete to avoid additional charges and ensure a smooth pickup.
How do I pay for my ride?
Rides can be billed through partner businesses or organizations like Job and Family Services, insurance programs, or paid privately with cash or credit card. A-Ride’s rates are similar to local taxi or national rideshare companies but are consistently based on the ride distance.
Can I bring a companion or caregiver with me?
Yes. Companions are welcome to ride along at no extra charge (space permitting). Please let dispatch know when booking.
Do you provide transportation outside the area?
Depending on your needs and location and A-Ride’s local demand, we may be able to arrange long-distance or out-of-area trips. Contact us to discuss options and rates.
